Compliance Manager, Issue Management
CardlessAbout Cardless
Cardless is building the infrastructure for the world's best companies to design, build, and launch financial products of their own. Companies like Coinbase and Bilt use Cardless to create credit cards that feel entirely their own. In an industry where branded financial products usually mean shared logos and shared control, Cardless is built to disappear. Our APIs and components shape the journey from the first application to every purchase, reward, and moment of support that follows, while we handle lending, compliance, and operations behind the scenes.
In September 2025, we raised a $60 million Series C led by Spark Capital, bringing our total funding to $170 million. The team is over 70 people and scaling toward profitability by year-end 2026.
We're looking for kind, humble people with high standards and low egos. We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. We see what could be improved, make it so, and leave every product, system, and team better than we found it.
About the role
We're hiring a manager to run compliance issue management at Cardless. That covers the issue log for all of our card programs, corrective action plans, consumer remediation, and monthly reporting to our bank partners. You'll take issues all the way to closed. That means the fix is actually in the product and you've checked it worked. The file should still make sense to an examiner two years later.
Cardless is a program manager. We partner with FDIC- and OCC-regulated issuing banks, each with its own regulator and reporting schedule, so most issues you work involve us, the brand partner and the bank.
This is a manager-level, hands-on individual contributor role with no direct reports, so you'll be doing the work yourself.
What you'll do
Own the compliance issue log across every card program and bank partner (intake, classification, root cause, target dates, status, closure) and keep it reconciled to each bank's register.
Document each issue: what happened, which requirement it touches, when it started, when customer impact ended, and how many customers were affected.
Write corrective action plans with an owner, a target date, and the evidence that will show the fix worked. If the permanent fix will take a while, put an interim control in place.
Work with Engineering, Product, and Operations on the underlying fix. An issue isn't closed until you've confirmed the fix held.
Scope affected populations, design the remediation, work with Finance and Operations to carry it out, then check afterward that each affected customer was made whole.
Send monthly issue reporting to each bank partner, answer partner and exam requests on open items, and prepare updates for the Compliance Committee and the Board.
Improve the tools and workflow behind all of this. Automate where it makes sense, and when the same kind of issue keeps coming up, add a control or monitoring to catch it earlier.
Help out in other compliance areas when needed.
What we're looking for
You think critically. With incomplete information you can work out what happened, be upfront about what you're sure of and what you aren't, and explain why you scoped something the way you did. Judgment matters most to us.
You've personally taken problems from "something looks off" to fixed and verified, more than once.
You have working knowledge of Regulation Z, Regulation E, Regulation B, UDAAP, and FCRA from applying them in your work, enough to say which requirement a defect actually breaks.
Experience in banking, fintech, or financial services is strongly preferred, whether in compliance, risk, audit, disputes, fraud, or operations.
You're comfortable with data and can tell whether a number is plausible. You use AI tools in your work now, and you check what they give you. You don't need to be an engineer.
Your writing is clear enough that a bank partner or regulator can follow it without a meeting.
You're organized. You can keep a lot of open items and deadlines moving on your own.
Bonus Points
SQL. If you can pull and check a population yourself, that's the most useful extra thing you could bring.
You've built your own tools, like scripts, automations, agents, or dashboards.
Experience with partner banks in a fintech program-management setting.
CRCM or another consumer compliance certification.
This role isn't a fit if
You're looking for hybrid or remote. We're in our San Francisco office 5 days a week.
You prefer a defined playbook and regular check-ins. This role is pretty self-directed, and a lot of it is still being built.
You'd rather hand off once a fix ships. Part of this job is going back to confirm customers were taken care of.
Why this role
You'll own issues from root cause through validation. A lot of issue management jobs stop at the tracker.
Leadership and our bank partners care about this work, and it goes to the Compliance Committee and the Board.
We're AI-forward and will give you the tools to automate the repetitive parts.
What success looks like. At 90 days you own the log, know every open item and who owns it, and your monthly reporting to each bank partner reconciles to their records. By six months intake and classification are consistent, corrective action plans have clear evidence standards, remediation is scoped by sub-issue and checked after payment, and our bank partners see the monthly reporting as an improvement. Issues you've closed stay closed, and recurring patterns have monitoring on them.
Compensation
This role has an annual starting salary range of $130,000 to $160,000 plus equity and benefits (see below). Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, and specific work location.
