We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Payroll Manager, to lead our US payroll processes. We are looking for team members who are passionate about contributing to the growth of a product that’s improving access to healthcare for all Americans.
In this role, you will report to the VP, Controller on the Finance team, collaborating closely with the People team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on knowledge of US payroll with an emphasis on accurate and timely payments, system integrations and data integrity. This is a hybrid role based at our San Francisco headquarters (in-office Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Own and execute end-to-end payroll processing for US employees across multiple states, ensuring every payroll run is accurate and timely.
Ensure timely tax filings and state registrations while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Lead the implementation of a new payroll system, setting up internal payroll operations and designing processes and workflows.
Manage the transition off the current PEO model. Partner with stakeholders to unwind PEO services and manage data migration into ADP.
Manage vendor relationships; ensuring high service quality, accurate processing, timely issue resolution, and effective handling of enhancement requests.
Serve as system administrator for ADP. Maintain system configurations, implement timely updates, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate data flow between internal systems.
Deliver clear payroll communications and responsive employee support. Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, proactively communicate deadlines and changes, and support employee understanding.
Partner cross-functionally to ensure compliance and data integrity. Work closely with the Finance and People teams on audits, reconciliations, reporting, and continuous process improvements.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and regulatory changes in all states.
Lead required compliance reporting and audits in partnership with People and Finance teams.
Maintain payroll accounting entries and reconciliations, collaborate with the accounting team on payroll aspects of the month close and annual financial reporting.
5+ years of US payroll experience, ideally in a high-growth or tech environment, including multi-state payroll and tax regulations.
Hands-on experience with ADP (Workforce Now or equivalent) as a system administrator or implementation lead.
Strong understanding of payroll compliance including FLSA, tax filings, benefit deductions, and year-end processes (e.g., W-2s).
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a customer-service mindset and ability to explain payroll concepts clearly.
Detail-oriented and process-driven, with a strong ability to maintain data accuracy, identify discrepancies, and support audits and reporting needs.
