PMA’s primary purpose is to negotiate and administer labor contracts with the International Longshore & Warehouse Union on behalf of the Association’s member companies, as well as administrating payroll and certain benefits. Our headquarters and administrative office is located in San Francisco, California, with area offices in Southern California (Long Beach and satellite offices in San Diego and Port Hueneme) and the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Oregon and Seattle and Tacoma, Washington) in addition to Northern California (Oakland).
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of ILWU-PMA Contract Benefits, the Senior Benefits Analyst supports the administration of collectively bargained employee benefit plans, ensuring compliance with Plan Agreements and Collective Bargaining Agreements. This role has direct responsibility for Welfare Plan claims review, and provides analytical support in the collection, auditing, and interpretation of Plan data and reports.
Working in a collaborative team environment, the Benefits Analyst contributes to the development of strategies related to a broad range of health, welfare, and other benefit programs, some of which are jointly administered with labor unions.
A candidate with 3+ years of experience in healthcare consulting, with Taft Hartley experience is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review benefit claims appeals and Plan-issued reports; identify trends and recommend administrative improvements.
Support weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks in collaboration with the Benefit Manager and Retirement Manager.
Provide peer-review and data analysis to support the Benefit Manager.
Assist with department projects and initiatives as assigned.
Monitor external developments (e.g., regulatory or legislative changes) impacting the benefits landscape.
Prepare for and participate in Trustee and Benefits Subcommittee meetings.
Assist with consultant and actuary requests and contribute to the preparation of analytical reports that identify cost drivers, trends, and cost-management opportunities.
Support the development and analysis of bargaining proposals and union demands; prepare cost estimates.
Assist with the implementation and communication of benefit plans.
Perform specialized data analytics projects.
Ensure compliance with ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, and other relevant laws.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is based in PMA’s downtown San Francisco office, located in the heart of the financial district with convenient access to public transportation. PMA supports a hybrid work schedule that combines in-office and remote work, with a preference for regular in-person collaboration.
