This position will report to the President of Republic Indemnity with the primary responsibilities of leading the field underwriting and business development teams and will work a hybrid schedule from Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento or the Bay area.
Responsibilities:
Manages all activities of the Underwriting and Business Development functions for Republic Indemnity.
Provides leadership to the underwriting team and is a member of the senior management group participating in management meetings and contributing to strategy and product development.
Identifies opportunities for and may spearhead development of new business, new markets, new distribution channels.
Oversees our distribution network, driving strong relationship and performance management of our agents and brokers.
Has accountability for risk selection, pricing, retention, growth and profitability decisions made by members of their team.
Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
Serves as a technical expert and ensures staff can interpret and explain products, markets, and service capabilities.
Participates in formal and informal reviews to assess overall quality of risk selection, and pricing, and ensure compliance with company guidelines.
Participates in the administration, application and updates to underwriting rules and guidelines.
Ensures effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained to attract and retain profitable business, as well as increase overall collaboration and execution of objectives
Supports the provision of excellent customer service. Develops and monitors management reports on service levels, activity, and customer experience. Works with other functional units to identify goals and strategies to optimize customer service and satisfaction.
Analyzes key performance indicators and prepares reports to communicate this information and develop strategies/action plans to address areas of concern.
Responsible for talent development and team performance, ensuring relevant goals are established and driving accountability to achieve them through reviews, coaching, and overall performance management
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Generally, 10+ years of proven leadership experience with experience in management of a workers compensation underwriting department, including experience with strategic planning and employee development.
Previous distribution management and workers’ compensation underwriting required.
Must be results oriented and customer service focused, with a bias for action and constant improvement.
Proven team builder/collaborator with ability to create engagement and energy to achieve stated goals.
Strong analytical and communication skills with the proven ability of partnering with individuals at all levels.
Ability to clearly articulate vision and objectives.
Insurance industry awareness and involvement.
Ability to develop and leverage strategic business relationships across the organization and externally.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be open to 25- 30% travel.
