Job Description Summary:
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Workers' Compensation & Benefits Manager is responsible for designing, administering, and overseeing the workers' compensation program to ensure compliance, employee satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness, and supporting See’s Candies in managing the employee benefit programs.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $125,000k -$140,000k per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Job Description:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Managing the reporting, review, investigation, and processing of workers' compensation claims.
- Approving medical services and costs related to worker injuries.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal workers' compensation laws and regulations.
- Supervising staff involved in claims processing and medical screening programs, including return-to-work initiatives.
- Participating in claim settlement discussions.
- Coordinating with legal counsel on litigated cases and acting as a liaison in hearings.
- Analyzing claims data to identify trends, fraud, or noncompliance.
- Educating stakeholders, such as employers, employees, healthcare providers, and insurers, on best practices and program compliance.
- Preparing reports on claims, settlements, and program performance.
- Overseeing third-party claims administrators.
- Collaborating with safety teams to develop and implement injury prevention programs.
- Supporting the senior manager in the overall strategy, design, and management of benefits and resources to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
- Staying informed about changes in workers’ compensation laws and regulations.
- Continuously review and improve claims programs to enhance outcomes and reduce costs.
- Administering and analyzing benefit programs such as health, dental, disability insurance, retirement, pension, flexible spending, and voluntary benefits.
- Analyzing benefit enrollments, contributions, utilization, and other key metrics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a related field
- 5 + years experience developing standard operating procedures and leading, implementing training efforts for internal cross functional teams.
- Relevant experience includes 5+ years in workers' compensation, claims management, or compensation administration
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for reviewing claims data, forecasting costs, and identifying trends or risks in compensation programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with employees, legal counsel, vendors, and senior management, and to explain complex compensation and benefits programs clearly
- Knowledge of workers' compensation laws and regulations, claim handling procedures, medical and legal terminology, and relevant state and federal compliance requirements
- Experience with claims administration, including negotiation and settlement of claims, coordinating with third-party administrators, and managing medical screening and return-to-work programs
- Competency in vendor and stakeholder management, including coordination with attorneys, medical providers, and insurance carriers
- Technology proficiency, including knowledge of claims management software and data analysis tools to track and report program performance
- Experience working with an enterprise HCMS and an outsourced benefits administrative partner
- Ethical judgment and the ability to uphold company policies and legal standards
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion
